Final Blog

I think that I have improved since the beginning of the semester in expressing the ideas that I have for my papers, and I think that the strategies that I have learned are to write out all of your ideas before you write your paper and to do an outline before you start your paper...its really helpful.I think that the final paper was the easist for me to complete becasue of all of the sources that i have become aware of like of course, you, research gateway, and having articles that are not avalible sent to myself. One of the lessons that i have actually enjoyed and that i think could be benifical in later life are the vocabulary assignments. Yes, I do feel like I am more prepared to write more college level papers because of the vocabulary, grammar guides, learning how to use the MLA handbook, how to find sources, and just having this class in general.

April 1st Poems

All of the boys have to do with, how females are treated, and how males act. That is the common ground that I got from all of the poems as a whole.

"The Flea"

i think the poem, "The Flea" is saying that marriage kills you as it goes on.

Poetry

i havent had much experience with peoetry, in high school we would talk about poetry and read a few peoms here and there but nothing major.
- my defintion of poetry is a piece of writing, that is a short short story but there is mor emotion in a poem because of the shortness of the poem.

Research Question

Why do the good and bad angels show up when they do, and what is their significance?

The freewrite for Monday was to write about the different ways that Dr. Faustus was told about people not approving of him bring back people from the dead. The reasons i listed were the discussion with scholar one and two and also Wagner, the fact that Dr. Faustus tells the devil to dress like a Friar so that he doesn't have to look the devil in his eyes, the good angel and the bad angel trying to pursued him, and his blood curing when he was signing the contract.
One of the main reasons that i think Dr. Faustus didnt truley want to go through with the whole project was becasue he wanted the devil to dress up as a Friar so he didnt feel like he was working with the devil, and so he wouldnt feel guilty about doing what he is doing.

Confusions-Interest

The most interesting and funny thing that i have found in the play is, the good and bad angels whenever they come into the scenes, because everytime that i read about them i think of the animated angel and devil that appear on peoples shoulders in movies and television shows.

Dr. Faustus

Family, Communication, Medicine, Religion, Law, Scholarship
That is the order that i would put things in order, i think that thinks have changed since Dr. Faustus's time becasue more has come about, and peoples morals have changed.

English 210 so far...

I've enjoyed intro. to lit. it is a lot of work bu thats how i expected it to be. There was only one thing that i disliked and that was the novel that we had to read but i got over eventually. i've liked the conference that we had with you to discuss the paper and i will continue to meet with you, little bits of grammar on fridays, and i actually enjoy learning new vocabulary each week. i feel the second part will go smoother.

"The Little Mermaid"

The point of view in "The Little Mermaid" is omniscient narrator, and the settign of the story is both on land and under the sea.

Compare and Contrast

1.) The characters in both "The Birthmark" and "Bartelby, the Scrivener" are motivated. In "The Birthmark", Aylmer is motivated to remove the birthmark that was placed on his wofe Georgiana's left cheek. In "Bartelby, the Scrivener" the lawyer is motivated to get rid of Bartelby because he was no longer participating in his work.
The plots of the two short stories are different because in "Bartelby, the Scrievner" the narrator tells the background of the majority of the characters, which is using exposion, in " The Birthmark" there was some what of suspense because after Georgiana had drank the mixture that her husband had made to get rid of her birthmark as the reader we were not sure what was going to happen since she was unconsious for so long but in the end i was not expecting the birthmark to be her soul.
2.) By comparing the two stories we as readers learnmore about the characters and what they are motivated to do and what their goals are at that particular time.

Sticks and Stones

In class today what some of my fellow classmates were saying pissed me off. I have a white mother and a balck father and he also is part Blackfoot Indian.So today when my classmates were trying to distinguish if Twyla and Roberta were white or black, I didnt say anything because I was thinking about the list we made up on the board- I have white cousins have bad grades and drop out of school, my older sister who is full black is married, has a job, and a son,  and my father is extremely successful, so i didnt know why some of the people in the class were trying to distingish who was black and white with those characteristics. In class you asked what do you think it would be like to be disliked becasue of you skin color and my answer is that it is hell! i know that I am only half but in soiciety I am classified as black. I never really realized racism while i was in elementry school because the children were so inoccent, but in junior high is when I started hearing the stereotypes with the watermelon, kool-aid, and the chicken, and if i heard them I would tell them that they are completley wrong, first I dont like watermelon, second kool-aid isnt a daily drink, and third who the hell doesnt like chicken its not just black people, but as i would try and clear up the stereotypes as much as i could i would just get the ignorant people yelling Nigger at me. That would always start a fight between me and whoever happened to yell it, which happened very often. Well my dad was very good at telling me that living in South Dakota this shit is going to happen, we only stayed in South Dakota because of my dads job, people are going to judge me because of my skin color all day, everyday and there is nothing I can do about it, he always told me sticks and stone hints why I got it tattooed on my body, he also told me that if people are going to be ignorant then prove them wrong in everything I do so as I got older I was the best at everything I did and i got respect and nobody yelled Nigger at me anymore. My senior year in high school i had to transfer to another school , a smaller school, and there happened to be about 3 or 4 very racist people and as soon as they say me walking around the school they immediatly thought of the word Nigger, thats the first thing that came to mind for them and i just thought of sticks and stones but the next day they all had Confederate flags hanging from their vehicles, I asked them if they knew the meaning of the word Nigger or even the meaning of the Confederate flag , and the ignorant dumb asses didnt know the meaning. So I just went on with my life and after that day they didnt say anything to me the rest of my senior year, and now my 2 younger sisters go to that school and I am going to have to teach them sticks and stones, and that they just need to keep their head up and be the best they can be.

Fake Twitter Accounts

what i think about the fake twitter accounts is that there is not much we can do about it because if people are going to be immature and create a fake account then they are going to do that, until they realize how stupid they are being. Yes, if someone created a fake account with my name i would be pissed but what can i do but try and find the person who created the account and tell them to delete, which may not end up deleted anyway.

First Paper- Completed!

With the first paper i was a tad bit overwhelmed at first because i wasnt quiet sure how to put all of my thoughts into the paper. I did not like the peer review because i didnt really get much feedback from the people i was working with and i couldnt decide if it was becase they didnt understand my topic of if they just didnt have anything to say about it, but having a confrence over the paper helped tremndously! going through the paper with someone who understood what i was trying to say was very helpful and gave me a bunch of ideas, after the confrence i torn my paper apart word for word and attempted to make it better with the ideas that were discussed in my confrence, and now i feel confident about my paper.

The Metamorphosis

hmm it thought that "The Metamorphosis" was one the oddest short stories that i have ever read. i wasn't expecting a human being to turn into a bug but it made me realize that people need to be greatful for what you have and don't take anything for granted!

Topic

In my first paper for the novel WE i want to argue the imagination of the children now days and how the imgaination of children does not exist in the One State also in my paper i will also talk about how the imagintion of children is decreasing becasue of the internet, video games, television.

We

In general i did not like the book but i got over it and read it but lastnight when i was reading the final records i realized that in the beginning of the novel the citizens of the One State acted like people from the 70's the girls were expected to do the house work usually one schedule and they didnt really show their emotions on anything and the guys worked and didnt show emotion either boys were always and still told not to cry which obviously is a form of emotion . The people of One State in the begignning showed no emotion but towards the end they showed every emotion that they were feeling anger, sadness, happieness...ect. just like the people now do. Im not sure why i thought of that so far into the novel but im glad that i actually realized that.

State of the Union Address 2011

The only thing that i found interesting was the quote by Obama, " We can't win the future with the government of the past."

Dislikes

In the One State i would most be unhappy with not having a family. The One State seemes lonley anyway and not having people you can trust and people that love you would be hard. I call or text my mom and dad everyday and i skype my little sister at least once a week or more..if i didnt have my family i would be the strong, optimistic person i am today.

Historical Strategies

The historical strategies explains where the novel takes place and when the novel was written. The novel was written in the 1920's but was based on the extreme future..past our time now, because the narrator is talking to us as their unknown reader and as ancestors. The novel also takes place in One State which to the reader is a somewhat of a mysterious place because from what i understand it is very secluded and is run by one controlling benefactor that is seen once a year...the one very important fact is that the extreme future is controlled and there is no individualism. The strategy is used very well throughout the book.

Terms

Style: Zamyatin uses very discriptive word choice so that the reader knows exeactly what they're reading about or what they are mentally suppose to see. As the description of the intercourse between I-330 and D-503.
Tone: the tone is a very serious tone as in when D-503 was saying how the ancients were like wild animals and that we should dare call our governmernt now a government.
Irony: Irony was used when I-330 told D-503 to meet him on the corner in 2 minutes and he waited and waited for 10 minutes and she finally showed up after he decided that he was going to leave, and right when he decided to leave I-330 showed up.
Plot: Unclear.
Characterization: I-330 is a very good example of characterization because she is a mysterious person and it is never know what she is going to do next.
Setting: The story takes place in OneState
Point of View: the story is told by D-503 and the story is told in the way that all of the citizens of OneState are taught to think.
Symbol: The pink ticket symbolizes, things that are done behind closed doors.
Theme: Unclear.

Hey, I'm Taysha Marie Hubbard and I was born and raised in South Dakota. I'm a very strong and competitive person and I love playing or trying any sport. Volleyball is my favorite. My number one most important thing in my life is my family they are always there for me when I feel like I can't be strong, and that is one of the reasons why I went to school close to home, I decided when I was a freshman in high school that I wanted to go to school to be a dentist, then my senior year I applied for a dental hygiene major and now that I have shadowed more I think that I make my major Pre-Dentistry.
